A roaring rise of diamond exchange has been seen by the impact of new diamond tax policy, which began to be implemented one and half year ago in China.
Reported by Diamond Administration of China (DAC), the total amount of diamond import & export and other exchange in Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) reached 1 billion US$ in 2007, increasing 53.4% compared to 2006. Among them, diamond import and export in the name of normal trade was 909 million US$ and internal exchange in SDE was 56.3 million, rising 58.7% and 56.3% respectively compared to 2006. Credited to the sustained booming consumer market, diamond import amount added 109.6% to 440 million US$ compared the last year, among which, polished diamond accounted for 98.9%.
In 2007, 29 new members joined SDE. By the end of 2007, SDE had 209 members.
